A Country Retreat

Design Objectives
Our objective was to design a backyard retreat with an overall natural "Muskoka" flavour.

We wanted to incorporate a swimming pool, spill over spa, gazebo, cabana, dining area, sun and shade patios and green space.

Our plan was to maintain the existing architectural elements and blend them with the new design.

Solutions
To begin the design, the pool was strategically placed with the sun in mind.We gave the pool some areas of natural stone edges and the spill over spa was set right into the stone.

By raising the dining area 2 steps from the rest of the pool a visual room was created. This was further enhanced by placing a pergola overhead. Posts from the pergola were set into the natural stone to give the landscape an undisturbed feel, the landscape developed from the earth.

The screened in gazebo was placed behind the the pool thus framing it into the yard.

The waterfall was set against the existing woods utilizing the mature plant growth to create a natural look. The waterfall was designed to reflect an actual waterfall with rocks carefully selected and carved.

Natural stone was selected for all the patios and pathways tying the entire design together. All pathways and patios were developed with views in mind. For example, when entering the yard a settee is viewed but the pool area is not visible. Around the corner a whole new view opens up to lead you on, etc.

A large selection of native plant material was chosen to blend the natural look into the forest beyond. We designed all the architectural elements to reflect the existing accents of the house.
